Meole Brace School

Student Enrichment

We have a wide and varied enrichment program that complements the academic and personal development curricula. This aims to provide all students with many opportunities to further their experience of life outside of school and to continue to develop as individuals. We have a broad trips and visits program that covers a range of activities and disciplines, both curriculum-based and otherwise. These include drama GCSE visits to London to see live performances, English theatre visits and history visits to London to study medicine through time. There are also trips abroad, for example skiing and a trip to Paris and also a team-building trip available to all year 7 early in the academic year. The visits program covers key stages 3 and 4 and it is our intention that all students will attend at least one visit during their time at Meole Brace. To further students’ academic enrichment, we have visiting speakers to school for selected subjects and again, it is intended that all students will benefit from this during their five years.

We offer all students the opportunity of taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme bronze award during year 10, this proving consistently very popular with students.

There is an annual school production which is open to all students and which is very popular with all year groups. One of it’s many benefits stated by students is that it gives different age groups the opportunity and experience of working together and learning from each other.

A further important part of student enrichment is our extra-curricular program which runs after school. This covers a wide range of clubs and activities both non-sports and sports and is available to all students. A year 11 GCSE revision program runs in parallel with this.

All students are a member of a house and the whole-school rewards program is linked to this. An integral part of the house system is fundraising and there are nominated house charities which students have the opportunity of helping to raise funds for. Meole Brace School has previously been in the top twenty schools in the country for fundraising for comic relief, something that all students are involved in and something we aim to continue this year.

Our careers program and provision is delivered in collaboration with an external provider. In addition to careers meetings, we aim for external visitors to come into school to speak to students and we have a series of Aspiration Talks from a wide range of speakers across a range of careers and disciplines. Additionally, all year 10 students have the opportunity to take part in a week of work experience with an external employer, during the summer term.
